The Midnight Writers Freelance Quest

Hi! My name is Cheryl Lynn Gardner, better known to most people as Summer Breeze. I have had a passion for writing for years. I also enjoy pen names, being a fan of Benjamin Franklin. Some of my pen names have been "Mary Sunshine" and "Midnight Rider", which was used for my peace and healing work at rainbow gatherings. Hence, I chose a pen name that is a play on that name, The Midnight Writer. The association is obvious since I am a free lance and sometimes creative writing.

  • In My Third Week of the Writing Race

It is still early March, but I feel as though spring is breaking forth with new buds on the trees and the birds are coming out to build new spring nests, while I am inside one university or another typing on a computer keyboard. I am still striving to qualify as a paid blogger and free lance writer for magazines both onlne and off. Meanwhile, I have a novel or two in the fire with irons getting pretty hot.

To be a successful blogger, and to get paid well for it, I learned quickly that to multiply oneself is the key. This week, I set a goal for myself to set up forty blogs. Today I succeeded! But wait, the race continues….

My next step is to apply to as many pay for blogging companies as possible. The more exposure one gains, the better chance of finding several very necessary free-lance writer survival mechanisms. First of all, seek companies with quality content, who possess well paying advertisers and or companies as sponsors. If the “pay for blogging” company has a good reputation, then the writer will maintain dignity. That is very important if a writer intends to further a career into magazine articles or editing, publishing or even as far as becoming a novelist. Integrity and good reputation go a long way in the writing arts industry.

Next, if the “pay for blogging” companies are being paid well, then they can afford to pay their writers well. Let’s be honest, this is a competitive field. Talented writers with a creative flair and the ability to write spontaneously in mulitple venues, however, is a rare occurrance.

Most newcomers to this business are in need of cash quickly. Most affiliate and “pay for blogging” programs into which I have applied, do not pay up front. In fact, most have a thirty to ninety day approval period before “one” of a writer’s blogs can be approved to accept articles, and hence, get paid. That means approximately two to four months before cash flow begins!

It can be a tough world out there in the freelance writing arena! But don’t give up. Persistance and fortitude will pay off. I believe it.

    My race continues….

The next step in my quest will require entering quality content onto all forty blogs. After all, there is a thirty to ninety day waiting period for approval. That is plenty of time to create quality posts with interesting and versatile content. Be very broad in areas of interest to increase the chance of appealing to advertisers and companies who will hire you as a free lance writer/bloggter. If the scope of imagination or interest is taxed, then read other blogs and online magazines and news headlines for ideas.

One of my favorite pastimes is drinking Starbucks Coffee (that was a freebie for them) while browsing the book and magazine section. Ideas come pouring forth from the myriad of titles. I take a piece of notebook paper to write down the ideas for story titles and topics, web/blog content as my creative juices flow. Now I can’t be certain that my imagination should solely receive the credit for this outflowing of abundant ideas, or if somehow drinking that Starbucks coffee is partially responsible.

No matter. I use my time in waiting without feeling anxious. I reach out and pursue outlets for creative source so my skills in writing will improve. Ninety days will pass without notice.
