Christmas Passed
No, I am not referring to A Christmas Carol and the ghost of Christmas Past! The season is now winding down, because Christmas has come and gone once again. It is almost a let down. Month of holiday planning, decorating the house, making travel plans to visit loved ones, the special foods, all the decorations at the mall and at Starbucks….the Christmas music for a month…
Then all at once it is over.
After such an exciting holiday, what do you do to compete? How do you get rid of those Christmas Passed blues? Will Scrooge be able to pick me up like Tiny Tim?
I miss the carols and it is only the day after Christmas. New Year’s has the parade and the countdown, but it just doesn’t measure up. The relatives are all going home and it snows a lot. Has any one thought of an after Christmas holiday remedy?
It feels like there should be more…like Christmas should wind down slowly like it starts. It takes about two months for the season to reach its climax, so it would make sense to have it end much slower.
I have an idea!
Extend Christmas till one week after New Year’s Day. Plan all sorts of special family and friend get togethers. Businesses, put on your best holiday Christmas Passed sales. Knock down those prices and get the people into the stores to shop some more. Tell them they can store the gifts for next year, like squirrels you know, storing up for winter.
Take down trees on the last day. Let the other light decorations and lawn ornaments linger till the end of January. Continue to send cards. Create a whole new line, yeah, Christmas Passed, Christmas Coming to Pass, and Christmas Passed Last Year…you get the idea.
Boost the morale of people. Keep the excitement of Christmas all year. We work this hard for one holiday, how much better would it be to institute a perpetual let’s make merry ordinance. Society, evolve, and become the Spirit of Christmas Passed.
